Stuff I did - An Altered Perspective

I have recently been playing around with Unity and this was my first real project that amounted to anything. Check out the video below for gameplay and you can download the entire game for free here.

It features a working pause menu (although I didn't take the time to delve into making the camera freeze when the game was paused, so it still looks around when you move the mouse), catchy background music, high scores and difficult levels with cool obstacles.

Saving Money - Getting games on the cheap

I love playing video games. I am borderline addict but the price tags really stink sometimes. Nothing beats waiting for a while for prices to drop but if you need your fix now there are a few sites that I found to help out. I am assuming you have met and are fairly acquainted with Steam and their ridiculous deals.

Humble Bundle is something that every Steam gamer should know. A bunch of game companies (usually independent ones) give out their games in a bundle for whatever you want to pay (if you want them through Steam you will have to pay at least $1, but that is seriously a bad deal for several games). The only thing you have to be careful about is whether or not the game is downloadable through Steam. They are doing weekly bundles now in addition to their normal bundle.

Another bundle site but a little more on the less acclaimed games. One of the other differences is that they have fixed prices for their bundles. They also do their downloads through some services other than Steam sometimes. Worth a look if you are looking for cheap games.

Cheap Shark is a great place to get a glimpse at games that are on sale from various places around the internet. If you use the browse function you can sort games by how good of a deal it is or whether or not the game is available through Steamworks (downloadable through Steam) and you can even enter a price range. It is worth bookmarking and checking every few days.

Find - Rainmeter

Customization is something that I enjoy on all of my devices. Having a one of a kind look is something that is only unmatched by having functionality to boot. Rainmeter is a free program that allows just that for your desktop. Before I really get into some of the details, take a look at some of the pictures:

This is a screenshot of my build right now

Some of them get pretty crazy

Neat and artistic

Most of the "skins," as they are called, are rather content heavy and take a bit of understanding to get running up to par with the images. I opted for a more simplistic design (I am not a fan of a cluttered desktop) on a background that I purpose build to go with the theme. Some themes are really simple to get running but some take some time, so there is a word of caution there if you do not want to learn how these work in depth, then you might not get all that you would like out of them.

With normal operation (not too many updates that require any sort of processing) the process doesn't ever really exceed 10mb of ram on my system (medium-high level of hardware). While the performance is astounding, I find it really useful to get weather and calendar at a glance and what geek wouldn't want some sort of system information at their fingertips?

If you have some spare time and are tired of your simple desktop, give it a shot. There is no charge for the program or the skins so you have nothing to lose. Deviant Art is one of the main places that people get together and share their skin creations so it would be a good idea to stop there.

Find - Life hack compilation

Lifehack (ˈlaɪfˌhæk)— n
Any procedure or action that solves a problem, simplifies a task, reduces frustration, etc, in one's everyday life.

Being able to get those things that may not be the most fun done quickly is a godsend. When you can get them done and save a few bucks as well as time, you win in more ways than one. I came across a really nice list of lifehacks that should make most people's lives easier. Check it out here.

There are tips that anyone can use and I am sure that you will try to accomplish at least a few of them. Here are my favorites.

Always bothered me, I just have to remember to put the empty ketchup bottle aside instead of in the recycle

I might just start keeping this in my car

Tired of spam?

Finally be able to see what you have in the back

IMO really cool but not the easiest to setup

Find - Fade: A scrolling platformer with fun in mind

I came across this little flash game while sitting bored at school so I figured I would pass it on. If you don't already know what Kongregate is, it is a website that pulls a whole bunch on flash games together and allows you earn achievements for completing certain tasks in the games.
The basis of Fade (without giving too much away) is that you are a colorblind llama that wants to see in color. That's it. Make sure you have your sound on so you can hear all of its glory. Check it out.

And if you are still looking for more random fun, check out Effing Meteors.

Find - Listia: Get Free Stuff

I came across this website a while ago but I wanted to make sure it was legit before I passed it on. The idea is that you are given a certain number of credits to bid on things (like ebay) that people are giving away, highest bidder gets the item. You can also list your own items or complete surveys and such to get more credits. I have gotten a few things so far and I am totally impressed. Give it a shot, it's free!
